COIN is a local information database compiled and maintained by Milton Keynes Library Service, providing a wealth of information about the local area. If you want to learn to dance, play a sport, find your nearest dentist or youth club then COIN can help.

How to search
Using COIN is easy. Start by typing one or two words in the Search For box which describes the general nature of your search. For example if you are interested in schools in the area you might type in "school" or education", if you are looking to play a sport you might start with "sport" or "badminton" if this was the sport you were interested in.

You can restrict the search to an Area if you wish. By choosing All you will get all entries for the Milton Keynes Council area.

After you click the Search button you will be presented with a list of entries related to the words you typed in. Usually you will also be given two extra selection boxes.

Associated Subjects: allow you to narrow down your search. For example if you searched on "sport" then Associated Subjects would be a list of sports available in the area.

Broader Subjects: allows you to expand your search. For example if you searched on "doctors" then Broader Subjects shows "Health".

Selecting either an Associated or Broader subject and clicking on its search button will initiate a new search using your selection.

At any time you may also type words into the Search For... box to start a new search.

If the search was successful you will be shown a list of up to 100 records showing the title and a brief description. By clicking on the title you can view the record in detail.

Notes:

1. COIN finds records using an exact match of the words you type in (including any spaces) but it is not case sensitive. Therefore "Schools" would find "schools" but not "school", "tai chi" would find "Tai Chi" but not "taichi".
   
   
2. COIN uses a list of alternative terms to try and understand what you are looking for. So, for example, "Bins" would find "Refuse Collection".
   
   
3. If COIN finds a postcode in the address, or meeting location which is within the city boundary then it will create a link to the city map to show its location.
   

Add an entry
If you would like to have your details listed on COIN you must complete and sign the relevant Application Form and the separate Data Protection Consent Form and return it to Milton Keynes Central Library (the address is on the form).

You may download the forms in Word format by right clicking on the links below and choosing "Save Target As".

Please allow 10 working days for your listing to appear.

Please note that if you are changing the contact name in an existing entry then that person must complete a Data Protection Consent form giving permission for their details to be held on the COIN database.
